August Newsletter

Mount Vernon Baptist Association

I sat at the Huddle House yesterday with a young man that blessed my heart.  He is from one of our churches and wants to see his church and our Association do well.  I loved to see the excitement he shows.  I love to visit our churches and talk with our people as well as hear from the pastors.

I was just thinking of how God has brought pastors and churches together; it always amazes me. He just knows what we need even when we don’t.  Often times we just take all that for granted.  October is “Pastor Appreciation Month” and is a great time to show our appreciation.  Pastors are on call 24 hours a day seven days a week.  Their job is not just Sunday and Wednesday for a few hours, it is a commitment to the Lord and to the church where God has placed him.

You may consider doing a few things for your pastor just to say thanks and we love you.  It could a card sent to him, a note that just says you appreciate all he does, a dinner out with him and his family or some other way that you decide.  Do not pass up this opportunity.

Looking Ahead

As I look to the calendar, September is looking like a great month.  There are so many wonderful things coming up.  You need to put these events on your calendar:

Breakfast at Bay Springs:  September 13 - The men’s group has invited the ladies to join them for breakfast.  It is always such a great time of fellowship and food.  I know that the ladies will add something very special to the breakfast.

Homecoming at Bethany: September 13 – This is a wonderful fellowship with a rich history.  There will be a dinner to follow the morning service. Revival Services will begin at 7Pm Sunday and will continue through Wednesday, September 16.  Everyone is invited to come.  Rev. Jarrett Birch will be the Evangelist for the week.

Homecoming at Hillcrest: September 20 – Everyone is invited to be a part of this special day.  Rev. Bill Calhoun will be preaching at the Homecoming service and will preach at the Revival Services – Monday through Wednesday at 7PM.

157th Annual Meeting of the Mount Vernon Baptist Association will meet on Saturday September 26th at New Home Baptist Church.

Special Services at Brown Memorial Baptist will feature Rev. Marcus Merritt of the Georgia Baptist Convention on Sunday evening, September 27th at 6PM and on Monday evening at 7PM.  You are invited to these special services.

Youth News

We need your help!  If you work with the youth in your church, we need to know how we can help you.  We are trying to put together some events and possibly some training events for youth workers.  We also need to know what you are planning so we can get some new ideas.

Don’t forget the Youth Rally that is planned for October 10.  We are still working on some great music and a speaker.

Backpacks for Appalachia

What a wonderful response we have seen to this outreach effort.  Josey Baptist and Pastor David Brown have taken the lead to get the Backpacks to these children in Tennessee.  We have formed a partnership with a ministry there and will be taking and distributing the backpacks to them on November 18 -19.

Your response has been overwhelming.  We have already received bags from Jackson’s and Harrison Baptist and have the promise of much more to come.  It can be a church project, church group or an individual ministry.  Thank you very much in advance.

Prayer Needs

*We have had some great reports from VBS, with several children and youth being saved.  Please pray for these new believers.

*Revivals continue to see people saved.  Each one of these needs our prayers.  It is not easy to walk with Christ in this world.

*The Good News Club at Johnson County Elementary School will be starting back in September.  Pray for the workers and for each child that will be involved.

*Pray for the Revivals that are happening this month.

*Pray for our Annual Meeting.

*Please continue to pray for your pastor and for Me.
