February 2016

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® is the primary funding channel for the North American Mission Board’s Send North America strategy. One hundred percent of gifts given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering are used to support Southern Baptist missionaries serving in the United States and Canada. The offering represents 49 percent of the North American Mission Board’s total income.

This year we are pleased to have Dr. Ricky Thrasher as our guest speaker at the Baptist Women/WMU gathering on March 15th at 6:30PM here at the Association Office.  Dinner will be provided. Please let us know if you will be able to attend.

Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.

Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Why Did Jesus Have To Die?

God is Holy

Although God is all merciful, all powerful and all forgiving, God is also holy, righteous and just.

Sin Separates Us from God

Sin entered the world through one man's disobedience - Adam, and now all of us are born into this "sin nature."

Sin's Punishment is Eternal Death

God's holiness and justice demand that sin and rebellion be punished. The only penalty or payment for sin is eternal death.

Atoning Sacrifice

Our death is not sufficient to atone for sin because atonement requires a perfect, spotless sacrifice, offered in just the right way.

Only Through Jesus Christ

Only through Jesus Christ can our sins be forgiven, thus restoring our relationship with God and removing the separation caused by sin.

In Summary, when we are "in Christ Jesus" we are covered by his blood through his sacrificial death, our sins are paid for, and we no longer have to die an eternal death. We receive eternal life though Jesus Christ. And this is why Jesus had to die.

Several of our churches will be having special Sunrise Services that usually start around 7am.  It would be a great time to worship the Lord.

Youth Spring Event

Mark your calendars.  The youth committee has planned a wonderful program for the youth of our association.  Saturday April 30, 6pm-8:30pm, we will have a fantastic speaker and wonderful music, great food and a lot of fun.

Plan to come and bring your young people to this great event.

The youth committee will be meeting to finalize the plans and would like your input.  They will be meeting at the Associational Office on Monday night, March 14th @ 7pm.  We hope to see you there.

Change your calendar

The youth will not be meeting to fill Easter eggs for the senior citizens on the 19.  We are sorry but there were too many conflicts on that day.  Enjoy your Easter season.

Georgia Baptist Mission Board

It’s often referred to as “The 3 Circles” and here’s what you need to know about it:

It’s fluid. It fits easily into and as a conversation that begins before the gospel is brought up. It segues nicely into the gospel in an easy, natural way.

It can hold any type of gospel presentation you’re used to sharing. In the part where you share the gospel itself, you can throw in Romans Road, Evangelism Explosion, or whatever… and it still works.

You can learn this approach in less than 10 minutes and can teach it in one session to your people.  There’s also an app that’s free in Google Play Store and Apple Store for mobile devices that can be used to present it, but is even better for your folks to learn how to share it, complete with video and “cheat sheet” tabs.

It costs nothing and can be drawn out on the back of a napkin, which is the approach I suggest. Why? The person you’re witnessing to can take the napkin with them.

Great Resources for Teaching

First, you should head over to the Life On Mission Conversation Guide page at the North American Mission Board’s web site. Scroll down and you’ll find teaching tools, including a PowerPoint presentation.  Then go over to NAMB’s store and order a box of the booklets to use when you teach. Good stuff.
